If 2013 was the year during which Rick Ross prepared the world for Mastermind, 2014 will apparently be the year that he finally unleashes it. Taking to a fresh verse on the just-dropped remix of Mastermind single “No Games,” Ross has subtly announced the push back to “top of 2014.”
As REVOLT awaits an official statement from Ross and his label on the delay, we can’t help but look back at Ross’ year and wonder why the album won’t be seeing its intended December 17 release date.
After officially announcing the title of the album just a week into 2013, Ross has spent the past 12 months promoting the LP via singles like “Box Chevy” and “No Games” and even embarking on an 8-city Mastermind Tour, but all of that apparently wasn’t enough to build the right amount of buzz for Rozay’s sixth studio album.
While the push back might have something to do with the relatively poor chart performance and reception to Mastermind’s singles “Box Chevy” and “No Games,” the world might also just be suffering from Rick Ross overload. After all, it’s been only two years since his previous album, God Forgives, I Don’t, and since then the rapper has held fans over with a new MMG album, a collab mixtape with Birdman, and a handful of features on songs with DJ Khaled and Jay Z.
Whatever the case, we’ll still give Ross the benefit of the doubt as we continue to anticipate Mastermind’s early 2014 release with baited breath.
